Protect Yourself from Mosquito Bites: Prevention Tips and Guidelines
Mosquitoes are active both day and night and can transmit germs that cause illnesses. According to the CDC, protecting yourself and your family from mosquito bites is essential to prevent diseases. The use of EPA-registered insect repellents containing active ingredients like DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE), Para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone is recommended. These repellents are proven safe and effective when used as directed, even for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Additional measures include wearing protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and pants, and using permethrin-treated clothing and gear. For children, it is advised to dress them in clothing that covers their arms and legs and to use mosquito netting over strollers and baby carriers. Special care should be taken when applying repellents to children, avoiding sensitive areas like hands, eyes, and mouth.
