Trump Administration Rejects UN Farm Declaration Over Gender References
The Trump administration has declined to participate in a United Nations declaration on sustainable livestock due to its frequent references to gender equality. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, represented by Paul Welcher, expressed the administration's desire to 'disassociate' from the UN's Global Plan of Action for Sustainable Livestock Transformation. The plan, which is voluntary, aims to address issues such as biodiversity, animal welfare, and emissions. However, the U.S. objected to the document's emphasis on gender, youth, and inclusion, arguing that it detracts from recognizing individual achievement. The administration also rejected the term 'climate change,' preferring to focus on specific environmental threats.
