City of Longmont to Acquire YMCA Property for New Recreation Center
The City of Longmont has announced plans to purchase the Ed and Ruth Lehman YMCA property located at 950 Lashley St. for $4.5 million. This decision comes after the YMCA of Northern Colorado faced financial difficulties, leading to the cessation of aquatics, fitness, and recreation services at the Longmont location. The city council approved the acquisition on July 14, with the intention of transforming the facility into a public recreation center. This move aims to address the growing demand for indoor recreation, wellness, fitness, aquatics, and community programming in Longmont. The city plans to evaluate and develop the facility to meet these needs while maintaining existing childcare services during the transition.
