Petrobras Confirms Hydrocarbon Discovery in Brazil's Campos Basin
Petrobras has announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery in the pre-salt section of the Campos basin, located offshore Brazil. The discovery was made in block C-M-477, approximately 201 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of about 2,984 meters. The presence of hydrocarbons was confirmed through electrical logs, gas shows, and fluid sampling. Petrobras, which operates the block with a 70% interest alongside bp holding the remaining 30%, plans to conduct further laboratory analysis to assess the reservoir characteristics and fluid properties. This discovery is part of Petrobras's ongoing exploration efforts in Brazil's pre-salt provinces, aimed at replenishing reserves and supporting long-term production growth.
