Android Auto users are experiencing consistent audio volume reductions, a phenomenon known as 'audio ducking,' primarily caused by the system prioritizing notifications and alerts. This feature, integrated since Android 8.0, temporarily lowers media volume to ensure users hear important alerts from apps like messaging or navigation. While designed for clarity and brevity, lasting only a few seconds, it can be disruptive for users. Major streaming applications such as Spotify and YouTube Music, along with navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze, do not offer in-app settings to disable this audio ducking. Additionally, Android 14 introduced a hearing safety feature that automatically lowers volume if loud audio is played for extended periods, though users are notified when this occurs and can disable the media volume limit setting. Troubleshooting steps like restarting devices or checking cables are suggested for connectivity issues, but for most, the volume reduction is an intended system behavior.
