EPA Approves $272 Million WIFIA Loan for Columbia, Tennessee Drinking Water Expansion
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a $272 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan to Columbia, Tennessee. This significant funding is earmarked for the city's Long Term Water Supply Program, which aims to expand its drinking water system and enhance supply reliability for both Columbia and surrounding rural communities. The program includes the construction of a new raw water intake structure and transmission main, alongside upgrades to the city's existing water treatment plant. These improvements are designed to increase drinking water capacity to meet growing demand driven by population and economic expansion within the Columbia Power & Water Systems’ service area.
