Consumer Watchdog Finds Omega-3 Supplements May Offer Less Value Than Advertised
A recent investigation by the consumer watchdog group Which? has revealed that many omega-3 supplements marketed as 'high strength' may not provide the value they claim. The study examined 24 omega-3 supplements, comparing their contents against the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition's (SACN) recommended daily intake of 450mg of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The investigation found that several supplements labeled as 'high strength' contained less than the recommended daily intake, despite being sold at premium prices. This discrepancy suggests that consumers might be overpaying for these products, as cheaper alternatives may offer similar or better nutritional value. The retailers involved have stated that their product labeling complies with the Nutrition and Health Claims Register.
