New York Bars to Extend Hours for 2026 FIFA World Cup with Outdoor Watch Parties
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a plan to allow New York bars and restaurants to extend their operating hours and host outdoor events during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This initiative aims to accommodate the influx of over a million visitors expected in the New York City region for the tournament. Bars and restaurants can apply for permits to host outdoor events and stay open as late as 4 a.m. during live matches. The proposal also seeks to temporarily ease certain State Liquor Authority restrictions, providing more uniform rules statewide and expanding options for outdoor and off-site viewing.
