Attorney General James Secures 140,000 Eggs for Westchester Families Following Price-Fixing Investigation
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the delivery of over 140,000 eggs to Feeding Westchester in Elmsford. This delivery is part of a bipartisan multistate settlement with major egg producers Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch. An investigation led by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), alongside the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and 16 other states, revealed that these companies illegally coordinated to influence a daily price index for eggs. This coordination allegedly led to artificially inflated prices for retailers and consumers nationwide for years. Under the settlement, the three egg producers will deliver a total of 53 million eggs to food banks in the 17 participating states, with New York receiving 4,968,000 eggs. Additionally, the companies will pay $3.3 million to the states and implement changes to their practices to prevent future violations.
