Malaysia Tops Global Ranking as Best Country for Digital Nomads in 2026
Malaysia has been recognized as the best country for digital nomads in 2026, according to the Rumavi Global Relocation Index. The index evaluated 192 countries based on factors such as living costs, tax rules, safety, and visa access, with adjustments for remote workers, families, and retirees. Malaysia excelled in digital infrastructure, scoring 80 out of 100, which is a significant advantage for remote workers. The country's warm climate and affordable living costs further contributed to its top ranking. Malaysia offers a Digital Nomad Pass, known as DE Rantau, allowing remote workers to live and work in the country for up to a year without a tourist visa. However, Malaysia scored lower in business opportunities, which may deter those looking to start new businesses. Portugal and Thailand followed Malaysia in the rankings, offering dedicated visas for digital nomads.
