Korean Contemporary Art Spaces Evolve Towards Self-Sustainability
In recent years, Korean contemporary art spaces have been transitioning from nonprofit models to more self-sustaining independent structures. This shift is driven by the need to reduce reliance on public funding and adapt to changing international and domestic environments. While public support has historically facilitated the growth of nonprofit art spaces, limitations in funding availability and changing policy priorities have prompted some spaces to seek alternative revenue streams. These independent spaces aim to maintain the experimental and public value ethos of their predecessors while developing more complex operational frameworks.
