Alexander Gumbs, CEO of Port St. Maarten Group, has outlined the strategic vision for the port's future, emphasizing its role as a leading Caribbean cruise destination. Under Gumbs' leadership since August 2021, the port has maintained its status as a top cruise hub, welcoming over 1.5 million passengers annually. The port, a state-owned enterprise, operates as a privately managed LLC and is crucial to the island's economy, contributing approximately 33% of St. Maarten's GDP. Gumbs highlighted plans for further investment in infrastructure, digitalization, and sustainability to enhance passenger experience and solidify the port's regional leadership. The port's operations span cruise, cargo, and yachting, with the cargo business playing a vital role in the island's supply chain.
