Congressman Rob Menendez's Office Contributes to Student's Prison Reform Research
Pricilla Jimenez, a student at Rutgers–Newark and recipient of an Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship for Public Service, has gained insights into prison reform through her internship at the district office of Congressman Rob Menendez. Jimenez, who was inspired by her mother's struggles within the criminal justice system, worked in Menendez's office helping constituents navigate federal programs and benefits. This experience, alongside her academic studies and other internships, has deepened her understanding of how incarceration in America has evolved and been shaped by policy. She plans to use her scholarship to travel to Norway to study its rehabilitation-focused prison system, which she believes offers a stark contrast to the U.S. approach. Her work with Congressman Menendez's office provided a practical perspective on how government functions and the importance of representation in addressing community needs.
