Afghan Women Rebuild Lives in U.S. After Fleeing Taliban Takeover
Five years ago, following the Taliban's retaking of Afghanistan, the New York Times facilitated the evacuation of over 120 Afghan journalists, translators, and their family members. A new book, 'The Last Free Women: A Daring Escape from Afghanistan and Coming of Age in America,' co-authored by journalists Rebecca Blumenstein and Diana Kapp, chronicles the experiences of four young women from this group as they endeavor to rebuild their lives in the United States. These women are navigating significant challenges, including pursuing higher education, securing employment, overcoming language barriers, and maintaining their faith in a new cultural context.
