China's Influence Campaigns and Cyber Espionage Threaten U.S. Security and Sovereignty
China is reportedly intensifying its efforts to influence and destabilize the United States through various means, including cyber espionage and influence campaigns. According to recent reports, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is leveraging its United Front Works Department to weaken the U.S. by engaging in activities such as cyberattacks, data theft, and influence operations. These efforts include the hacking of the Office of Personnel Management in 2015, which resulted in the theft of security clearance forms for 22 million Americans. Additionally, China is accused of using platforms like TikTok to collect personal data and influence American youth. The CCP is also allegedly involved in setting up secret police stations in the U.S. to monitor and intimidate Chinese-Americans who criticize Beijing. Furthermore, China-linked groups are reportedly campaigning against American data centers to hinder U.S. artificial intelligence development, while promoting Chinese AI models trained on stolen American data.
