American Booksellers Association Plans Largest Independent Bookstore Day Celebration in 2026
The American Booksellers Association (ABA) is preparing for the largest Independent Bookstore Day (IBD) celebration yet, scheduled for April 25, 2026. Approximately 2,000 bookstores across the United States are expected to participate, marking an increase from 1,600 stores in 2025. The event aims to celebrate the role of independent bookstores in fostering human connection, diversity, inclusivity, and community. Participating bookstores will offer exclusive merchandise, special editions of books, and host events featuring local authors and illustrators. Some stores are extending the celebration into a week-long event with themed days leading up to IBD. Additionally, various book crawls and passport programs are planned across the country, with some lasting the entire month. Affiliated businesses like Libro.fm and Bookshop.org are also offering promotions to support the event.
