Chubut Province Seeks to Diversify Argentina's Submarine Cable Entry Points
The province of Chubut in southern Argentina is actively seeking investment to develop a second submarine fibre optic landing point in the country. This initiative aims to diversify the entry points for international data traffic and expand national connectivity capacity. Chubut offers several competitive advantages, including abundant energy resources, a strategic location on the South Atlantic, integration with the bi-oceanic fibre optic corridor, and a free trade zone. Currently, all submarine cables reaching Argentina converge at Las Toninas, located about 1,400 kilometers north of Chubut. The province hopes to establish its own bioceanic connection route linking the Atlantic and the Pacific, with plans to secure multilateral financing for a new mooring station. This development is part of a broader effort by several provinces in Patagonia to attract interest from the data centre industry.
