New UNICEF-Coordinated Nutrition Data Challenges Claims of Gaza Malnutrition Crisis
New nutrition data from a survey coordinated with UNICEF has been released, challenging international claims that Israel is deliberately starving Gazans. According to Danny Danon, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, the data shows that child malnutrition levels in Gaza are far below emergency thresholds and are comparable to prewar levels. The survey, conducted through the U.N.-led Nutrition Cluster, used World Health Organization methods to assess children's nutritional status. The findings indicate that acute malnutrition rates in Gaza range from 0.2% to 0.8%, which are lower than those in some neighboring countries. This data comes amid ongoing debates over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, with Israel disputing previous assessments that suggested famine conditions.
