Experts Emphasize Everyday Habits for Healthy Aging Amidst Rising Centenarian Population
As the number of centenarians in the U.S. rapidly increases, with the U.S. Census Bureau reporting an increase from 53,364 in 2010 to 80,139 in 2020, experts are shifting the focus from merely extending lifespan to enhancing 'healthspan'—the years of healthy, independent living. These habits, though familiar, are crucial for managing chronic conditions, preserving mobility, and maintaining independence, especially as three out of four U.S. adults have at least one chronic condition.
