NRO Awards Radar Data Contracts to Capella, Iceye, and Umbra for Enhanced National Security
The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has awarded contracts to Capella Space, Iceye U.S., and Umbra to expand the U.S. government's use of commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR). These contracts, managed by the NRO's Commercial Systems Program Office, aim to provide all-weather, day and night imaging to support national security and humanitarian missions. The initiative is part of the NRO's strategy to integrate commercial SAR capabilities with national systems, enhancing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capacity. This approach leverages rapid innovation in the commercial space sector to augment the NRO's space-based intelligence systems.
