Maryland Prepares for Back-to-School with Tax-Free Week and Rising Costs
Maryland is gearing up for the new school year with its annual Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week from August 9-15. During this period, clothes and shoes priced at $100 or less are exempt from the state's 6% sales tax, and the first $40 of a backpack is also tax-free. This initiative comes as families face increased costs for school supplies, with research indicating a significant rise in expenses compared to the previous year. The state is also hosting a contest where participants can win up to $1,000 by posting videos recorded at stores during the tax-free week.
