Actor Steve Buscemi Rejoined Firefighting Efforts During 9/11 Tragedy
In 2001, actor Steve Buscemi returned to his former profession as a firefighter to assist in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. Buscemi, who had been a firefighter at the age of 18, joined the bucket crew, working through the rubble of the Twin Towers to search for survivors. Following the incident, he became an advocate for first responders, addressing mental health issues and depression experienced by many involved in the rescue efforts. Buscemi has openly shared his own struggles with depression and PTSD stemming from his experiences during 9/11.
