Ventura County Sees Seventh Rattlesnake Bite Incident Amid Rising Encounters
A woman hiking on the Long Canyon Trail in the Wood Ranch neighborhood of Simi Valley, Ventura County, was bitten on the ankle by a rattlesnake. This incident marks the seventh reported snake bite in the county this year. The Ventura County Fire Department received a 911 call at 2:40 p.m. reporting the bite, and paramedics responded both on the ground and by air. The woman was transported to the hospital by helicopter and is in stable condition. The increase in rattlesnake bites is attributed to unseasonably warm weather, which has led to more frequent encounters between humans and snakes. The county reported nine bites in 2025, and the trend appears to be continuing with more bites reported earlier in the year than usual.
