Tourist Allegedly Attacked in Luxury French Villa, Raising Concerns About High-End Travel Incidents
An Australian entrepreneur, Callum Forbes, reportedly suffered severe injuries, including second-degree burns and a burst eardrum, after an alleged assault by his boyfriend, David Cao, in a luxury French villa. The incident occurred at the Château de Perreux boutique hotel in Nazelles-Négron, where the couple was staying. Police allege Cao poured hot water over Forbes and struck him with a saucepan while he was asleep. Forbes stated the attack happened shortly after they discussed separating. Cao, a banker, allegedly fled the scene and was later apprehended by French authorities near the Belgian border after a 36-hour manhunt. He has been charged with attempted murder, with French reports indicating additional charges including kidnapping, theft, torture, and acts of barbarity. Cao reportedly admitted to the attack but denied intent to kill. Forbes is receiving consular assistance from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
