Regular Physical Activity Crucial for Overall Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Recommends Guidelines
Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining overall health, contributing to improved cardiovascular health, stronger muscles and bones, enhanced mental well-being, and sustained mobility as individuals age. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults aim for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, in addition to muscle-strengthening activities at least two days a week. Importantly, this activity does not need to be completed in single, long sessions; research indicates that physical activity can be accumulated in smaller increments throughout the day. Even individuals not currently meeting these guidelines can benefit significantly from increasing their movement and reducing sedentary time. Simple strategies like walking whenever possible and taking short, active breaks during the day are effective ways to incorporate more movement.
