Seattle City Council Approves Historic Transit Measure to Expand Bus Services
The Seattle City Council has unanimously passed the Seattle Transit Measure (STM), a significant initiative aimed at expanding transit services in the city. The measure proposes to increase the city's transit sales tax by 0.15 percent, raising it to 0.3 percent for the next decade. This funding will support over 100,000 additional hours of transit service, including night-time bus services and expanded transit access programs. The measure also aligns with recommendations from the King County Regional Transit Safety Task Force to enhance public safety on buses. The STM will be presented to voters in November for final approval.
