The Grand Theater in Wausau Launches $17 Million Renovation to Enhance Facilities
The Grand Theater in Wausau has embarked on a significant renovation project valued at over $17 million, known as the Second Century Project. This initiative aims to modernize the historic venue, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall patron experience. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 13, marking the commencement of the project. Key participants included members of the theater's staff, the Performing Arts Foundation board, The Grand Theatre Foundation, and the Second Century Campaign committee. The renovation will introduce new seating with improved ergonomics and modern amenities, alongside expanded ADA-compliant pathways and additional restroom facilities. The project also involves replacing outdated building systems and conducting both interior and exterior restoration work, including a full roof replacement. The construction is scheduled for completion by November 7, 2026, coinciding with the start of the theater's 2026-27 season.
