USDA Designates Thirty-Three Colorado Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas Due to Drought
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) has designated thirty-three counties in Colorado as primary natural disaster areas. This designation is a direct response to severe drought conditions experienced during the growing season, with these counties suffering from a D2 Drought-Severe intensity for eight or more consecutive weeks, or D3 Drought-Extreme or D4 Drought-Exceptional levels, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. This action enables the FSA to provide emergency credit through loans to agricultural producers in the affected areas. These emergency loans are intended to help producers recover from losses, including the replacement of essential items like equipment or livestock, reorganization of farming operations, or refinancing certain debts. The FSA will evaluate loan applications based on the extent of losses, available security, and repayment capability. The application deadline for these loans is December 07, 2026.
