Tech Companies Urge Public-Private Collaboration to Combat AI-Driven Cyber Threats
Over 100 technology companies, including industry leaders like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, CrowdStrike, Okta, and Fortinet, have collectively signed an open letter advocating for enhanced collaboration between the private and public sectors to address the escalating threat of AI-driven cyber attacks. The letter highlights the increasing sophistication of these AI-enabled attacks, which have the potential to target critical infrastructure such as hospitals, water treatment plants, and internet systems. The signatories are calling for the implementation of new cybersecurity measures, increased international government cooperation, and the development of 'collective response' strategies to effectively mitigate these emerging risks. Notably, many of these companies are also actively developing defensive AI applications, such as OpenAI’s Daybreak program, Anthropic’s Mythos, and Microsoft’s Perception platform, to counter the very threats their technologies might inadvertently enable.
