International Ice Hockey Federation Announces 2027 World Championship in Germany
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has announced that the 2027 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship will be hosted in Germany, with the opening game set to take place at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The tournament will feature 16 top national teams and is scheduled from May 13th to 30th, 2027. The opening match will see Team Germany face off against Switzerland, the reigning runners-up. This event marks a return to the Veltins-Arena, which previously hosted the 2010 championship opener. Ticket sales for the event began on July 16th, 2026, with various packages available for fans.
