Brooklyn Democrats Criticized for Running Deceased Candidate to Support Hakeem Jeffries' Re-election
In a controversial move, Brooklyn Democratic leaders have been accused of promoting a deceased community leader, Robert Gevertzman, as a candidate to bolster House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' re-election efforts. Gevertzman, who passed away in March 2025, was included on the Democratic ticket for a seat on the Kings County Democratic Committee. This maneuver has been criticized as a 'disgraceful' tactic to mislead voters and secure additional signatures for Jeffries' campaign. The incident has sparked outrage among local Republicans, who claim it undermines the integrity of the electoral process. The Democratic Party's actions have been further scrutinized due to the involvement of a one-armed man in videos falsely claiming that another candidate, Joey Cohen-Saban, is not a Democrat, in an effort to secure a third-party line for him.
