Wyoming Experiences 12-Year High in Food Insecurity, Park County Pantries Under Strain
Wyoming is currently facing its highest rate of food insecurity in over a decade, with more than 94,000 residents affected, according to the latest Map the Meal Gap report by Feeding America. This represents an increase of 4,000 people in just one year. The report, cited by the Food Bank of Wyoming, also reveals that 25,700 children in the state, or one in five youth, are experiencing food insecurity. This escalating crisis is attributed to families struggling with the rising costs of housing, healthcare, and groceries. Park County food pantries and senior services are reporting that these statewide statistics accurately reflect the increased demand they are witnessing at their facilities. Wyoming now ranks 11th nationally for food insecurity per capita, with the rate for adults rising from one in seven to one in six in the past year.
