Teenager Charged for Piloting 'Mega Dinghy' in Record Migrant Crossing to England
A 19-year-old Sudanese national, Chan Mathok Atak, has been charged with endangering others while allegedly piloting a 'mega dinghy' carrying a record 165 migrants from France to England. This incident, reported by the National Crime Agency, marks the largest single crossing of its kind. Atak is set to appear at Margate Magistrates' Court. The crossing broke the previous record of 128 migrants on a single vessel. Despite a decrease in overall crossings compared to previous years, the number of people per boat has increased, raising safety concerns. The Home Office reported that 366 people arrived in the UK on the same day as the record crossing, highlighting the ongoing challenge of managing illegal entries via the English Channel.
