Austrian Police Discover Rat Poison in HiPP Baby Food, Prompting Nationwide Recall
Police in Austria have discovered rat poison in a jar of HiPP baby food, leading to a recall of the product from over 1,000 SPAR supermarkets across the country. The affected product, HiPP Vegetable Carrot with Potato jars, was found to potentially contain a dangerous substance, raising concerns about tampering. The recall is a precautionary measure after a customer reported a jar that tested positive for rat poison. Authorities in Austria were alerted following investigations in Germany, and similar jars in the Czech Republic and Slovakia also showed the presence of a toxic substance. HiPP has indicated that the situation may involve external criminal interference affecting the SPAR Austria distribution channel. The company has advised customers not to consume the jars, which could be life-threatening, and has offered refunds for returned products.
