Survey Reveals Many Canadians Unaware of Travel Insurance Voiding by Federal Advisories
A recent survey commissioned by Global Affairs Canada has highlighted a significant gap in awareness among Canadian travelers regarding the impact of federal travel advisories on their travel insurance. The survey, conducted by Strategic Counsel, found that only 28% of respondents were aware that changes in the risk level of destinations, as indicated by Ottawa's travel alerts, could lead to insurers denying claims. This lack of awareness could expose travelers to financial and safety risks. The survey also revealed misconceptions about the services provided by Canadian embassies abroad, with many respondents unsure about the extent of assistance available, such as financial aid in emergencies or the repatriation of remains. The findings suggest that while Canadians are open to travel advice, they often do not proactively seek out or engage with government-provided travel risk information.
