Eight Tornadoes Confirmed in Chicago-Area Derecho
The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed two additional tornadoes from the severe weather outbreak on August 11, bringing the total to eight. The derecho swept through the Chicago area last Tuesday morning, producing straight-line winds exceeding 100 mph (161 km/h) and multiple tornadoes. The newly confirmed tornadoes occurred near Morris in Grundy County, both classified as EF-0 with wind speeds of 80 mph (129 km/h). One tracked 1.6 miles southwest of Morris, while the other traveled 2.2 miles in the northeastern part of the city. Other tornadoes from the outbreak ranged from EF-0 to EF-2, impacting areas such as Monee, Frankfort, Wilmington, and Tinley Park.
