Louvre Lends Islamic Art Treasures to Smithsonian for Exclusive Exhibition
The Musée du Louvre in Paris is lending 26 works from its Islamic art collection to the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C. The exhibition, titled 'From the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art,' will run from September 26, 2026, to January 18, 2027. It will feature iconic objects, including a bronze statue from Islamic Spain and a large Ottoman ceramic bowl. The exhibition aims to explore the concept of 'masterpieces' within Islamic aesthetic traditions and highlight the historical journeys of these artefacts. This collaboration underscores the longstanding relationship between the Louvre and the Smithsonian.
