U.S. Trial Demonstrates Effectiveness of Low-Cost Liquid in Halting Children's Cavities Without Drilling
A major U.S. clinical trial has shown that silver diamine fluoride (SDF), a low-cost liquid, can effectively stop the progression of cavities in children without the need for drilling or anesthesia. Conducted by the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, the trial involved 830 children under six years old and demonstrated that applying SDF every six months could arrest decay in over half of the affected baby teeth. This treatment offers a non-invasive alternative to traditional methods, which often involve removing decayed material and filling the cavity. The trial's findings, published in JAMA Pediatrics, provide strong evidence for the safety and efficacy of SDF, potentially paving the way for FDA approval.
