Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Continues Repairs on Sunset Boulevard Trunk Line, Extending Road Closure
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is engaged in ongoing repairs of a ruptured trunk line on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, which has resulted in the closure of the iconic roadway. The rupture, which occurred last Thursday, released approximately 17 million gallons of water, causing significant disruption. The affected section of the trunk line, a riveted steel pipe dating back to 1916, is part of a larger network responsible for transporting water from reservoirs to distribution mainlines. Despite initial hopes to reopen the road by Monday, repairs are taking longer than anticipated, with the LADWP indicating that work will continue into the week. Crews have replaced the broken pipe with a new steel section and are conducting pressure tests to ensure stability before proceeding with street repairs.
