Research Highlights Optimal Resistance Training for Reduced Mortality and Enhanced Cardiometabolic Health
Recent research indicates that engaging in 90–119 minutes of resistance training per week is associated with significant health benefits, including a 13% lower risk of death from any cause, a 19% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, and a 27% lower risk of death from neurological diseases. These benefits were observed even after accounting for aerobic activity, suggesting that resistance training provides additional advantages. The study, which analyzed data from 147,374 adults over up to 30 years, also found that exceeding 120 minutes per week did not lead to further reductions in these risks. For cancer mortality, 1–59 minutes of resistance training per week was associated with a lower risk, with higher amounts not yielding additional reductions.
