South Africa's Mining Production Sees 9.7% Year-on-Year Increase, Driven by Platinum and Gold
Statistics South Africa reported a 9.7% year-on-year increase in the country's mining production for February. This growth was primarily driven by platinum group metals, chromium ore, manganese ore, and gold. Despite this positive trend, iron-ore and coal were noted as the largest negative contributors. The data also highlighted a 58.3% year-on-year increase in mineral sales at current prices, with significant contributions from gold, platinum group metals, and chromium ore. Seasonally adjusted mining production showed a 2.3% increase year-on-year, following fluctuations in previous months.
