Juneau Group Raises Concerns Over B.C. Mine's Impact on Taku River
A Juneau-based environmental group, Salmon Beyond Borders, has expressed concerns about the potential impact of the New Polaris mining project in British Columbia on the Taku River. The project involves the redevelopment of a former gold mine near the Alaska border, with plans to use large vessels on the Taku River for transporting supplies and equipment. The group warns that these activities could threaten the river's ecosystem, particularly its salmon population, which is vital to the local economy and culture. The project has reached a new stage with its application to British Columbia's environmental assessment office.
