Sentinel Metals Proposes Gold Exploration Near Lincoln, Sparking Local Debate
Sentinel Metals, an Australian mining company, has proposed a gold exploration project near Lincoln, Montana. The company has applied for a permit to drill 21 holes on private land east of Lincoln to assess the potential for mining. This proposal has generated mixed reactions among local residents. During a recent meeting attended by over 75 people, some locals expressed support, hoping the project could stimulate economic growth and address issues like unemployment and housing shortages. However, others voiced concerns about environmental impacts and the potential for history to repeat itself, referencing past mining activities that required costly cleanups. Sentinel Metals' VP of Government and Community Affairs, Krista Lee Evans, acknowledged these concerns, noting that only a small fraction of exploration projects lead to actual mining operations.
