The statue, part of a larger memorial project in St James's Park, London, was chosen over other designs that included a depiction of the Queen on horseback. The decision to opt for a standing statue was made to emphasize her role as Head of State. Despite the backlash, the memorial aims to honor the Queen's legacy and transform the park into a civic space named Queen Elizabeth II Place.
