South 8 Technologies Initiates Volume Production of Extreme Cold Weather Lithium-Ion Batteries for U.S. Defense Sector
South 8 Technologies has launched its new semi-automated battery cell manufacturing line in San Diego, California, marking a significant advancement in U.S. domestic cell manufacturing capacity. This new line will support an annual production of 5 MWh of cylindrical cells by 2027, specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of defense and specialty markets for reliable battery performance in extreme cold. The manufacturing expansion focuses on producing South 8's ARCTIC™ AE35 18650 cell, which incorporates a proprietary LiGas liquefied gas electrolyte. This technology enables the batteries to charge and discharge effectively in temperatures ranging from -60 °C to +60 °C (-76 °F to +140 °F).
