Maui Wildfire Recovery Progresses Amid Ongoing Challenges
Three years after the devastating 2023 wildfires in Maui, a new report from the Maui Wildfire Exposure Study highlights both progress and persistent challenges in the recovery process. Employment and health insurance coverage have improved among returning adults, and housing stability has increased. However, food insecurity remains a significant issue, affecting nearly 45% of returning adults. Social support networks have weakened, and many residents continue to experience emotional distress, including depression and anxiety. The report emphasizes the need for continued health monitoring and support to address the long-term impacts of the disaster.
