Beluga Whales Relocated from Canadian Park to U.S. Aquariums Amid Financial Struggles
A group of beluga whales has been relocated from Marineland in Niagara Falls, Canada, to various aquariums in the United States. This move comes after Marineland, which has been closed to visitors since 2024, announced it could no longer afford to care for the whales. The first two whales, Bertie Botts and Frankie, have arrived at SeaWorld San Antonio, while others have been sent to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. The relocation was approved by U.S. regulators, who determined that no Canadian facility could meet the whales' medical needs. This is part of a larger effort to rehome 28 belugas from Marineland.
