Illinois Worker Rescued After Being Trapped in 130-Foot Gas Station Sign
In Wilmington, Illinois, a maintenance worker was trapped inside a 130-foot gas station sign for approximately five hours after the lift he was using malfunctioned. The incident occurred while the worker was performing maintenance on the sign located off Interstate 55. Fire officials faced challenges in finding a lift tall enough to reach the worker, as their equipment only extended to 100 feet. Eventually, a specialized lift was located in Joliet and escorted to the site by Illinois State Police. The worker was safely brought down and refused medical treatment, indicating he was unharmed.
