Tennessee Supreme Court Adopts AI Policy for Continuing Legal Education Providers
On October 9, the Tennessee Supreme Court issued an order adopting amendments to Supreme Court Rule 21, following proposals from the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education (CLE). These amendments, which the court had sought comments on since May 27, combine Sections 6 and 7 of the rule and revise deadlines and fee structures for attorneys who do not comply with annual CLE requirements. Crucially, the court also approved amendments to commission regulations to incorporate an Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy specifically for CLE providers. The commission stated that the goal of these changes is to improve the communication of standards, encourage timely compliance among attorneys, and ensure fairness for all attorneys subject to Rule 21. The order includes several appendixes detailing the changes, including redline versions of the AI policy and its incorporated form.
