Mexico Prioritizes Community Tourism in New National Strategy
Mexico has launched a new national tourism strategy, declaring community-based tourism a public interest and national priority. This initiative aims to strengthen local economies while safeguarding the country's natural and cultural heritage. The National Tourism Development Fund (Fonatur) will coordinate efforts, directing investment towards infrastructure, tourism facilities, and services. The strategy focuses on developing destinations where local cooperatives and community-based enterprises play a central role in the visitor economy. Initially, the program highlights three diverse destinations: Maya Ka’an in Quintana Roo, Camino del Mayab in Yucatan, and Pueblos Mancomunados in Oaxaca.
